On April 20th, 2019 Tsvetnoy Central Market in collaboration with MSK Eastside Gallery presented 'Underground Hip - Hop' an exhibition by legendary American music photographer George Du Bose.
George's work in the Hip-Hop genre began with Afrika Bambaataa and Soul Sonic Force whose first hit was "Planet Rock" which was words over "Trans Europe Express" by Kraftwerk, so Du Bose naturally thought that Hip-Hop was just a part of New Wave which was a pretty open musical genre. In 2014, he published his 'BIg Book of Hip-Hop Photography' where he captured the thriving urban and street movement of the late 80s and 90s.

His works have been published in iconic magazines such as Interview, Rolling Stone, and SPIN. He had worked with bands at legendary clubs like CBGB's, Max's Kansas City, and the Warhol Factory.
George Du Bose's professional photography began with the New Wave band The B52s and their first album cover. By word of mouth, Du Bose began to make covers of vinyl records and performances for Lydia Lunch, Kid Creole, Tom Waits, Madonna and many others. His biggest collaborators were without a doubt the Ramones. Du Bose photographed and / or designed over eight vinyl sleeves and dozens of publicity photos for the Ramones.

In 2006 The New York Times stated that DuBose was one of the most influential album cover artists of the past four decades.
For his first exhibit in Moscow, Russia DuBose will be exhibiting images and portraits of early Rappers such as Afrika Bambaataa, Run - DMC, Mobb Deep, Rammellzee, Big Daddy Kane, The Notorious B.I.G and more.

Alongside Du Bose's work, MSK Eastside Gallery is proud to work with artists Misha Most, Alex Kuznetsov, Koresh 167, and Bro 26 to make site specific arts inspired by the photographs of that era and the world wide Hip - Hop culture.
